Teaching Irish-American History
TIMOTHY J. MEAGHER
I HAVE TAUGHT a graduate colloquium
in Irish-American history for a number of years, a one semester undergraduate
lecture course survey of Irish-American history, and I am currently teaching
a course "Famine Irish Immigrants and Their Children: A Case Study."
My approach varies a great deal in those three courses, obviously, but
I will try to lay some of the basic principles that guide my teaching
and suggest how they do, or do not, fit with the points Kevin Kenny has
made.
